Abstract: We present our results of observations and simulation of dynamic processes in geospace which accompanied the two-phase ionospheric storm on 20–23 March 2003. The strongest negative phase of the storm can be considered as anomalous one because it was proceeding on the background of moderate geomagnetic disturbance (Ар = 29, Кр = 5). The principal mechanisms forming the positive and negative ionospheric storm phase development are considered. Particular attention is given to the description of processes accompanying the change of storm phase that occurred during sunset period (about 18.00 UT). Л simulation and study of the effects of ihermnspheric dlslurbances and also the thermal regime of neutral and charged components of the upper Earth's atmosphere during the storm are conducted. The observations are carried out with the Kharkov incoherettl scatter radar.
