Abstract: Domestic satellite oceanology was developed about 30 years ago. In 1976–1977 the decisions on the creation of the experimental oceanographic spacecraft «Ocean–E» and the development of the state space system for researching the Earth environment «Resurs» and its subsystem «Ocean» were adopted. This paper considers some problems of space oceanographic system «Ocean–Sich» functioning and the main directions of practical application of the derived information in performing fundamental and applied tasks in the field of oceanology, ecology, hydro-meteorology, etc.
