On magnetospheric and induced currents during magnetic storms

Abstract: 
Our results of estimation of the influence of solar wind parameter changes and interplanetary magnetic field components on the geomagnetic storm field during magnetic clouds are reported. In some cases, the shift of Dst-minimum at nearby observatories is detected, that may be connected with the influence of induced currents. After eliminating magnetic substorms, the duration of the main phase of the magnetic storm which corresponds to the time of the increasing part of the magnetosphere ring current DR is equal to 2–5 hours. The conclusion is made that the induced current DR cannot get into the Earth's mantle more deeply than the currents of daily variations.
