Abstract:
The scattering of ordinary electromagnetic wave on the kinetic Alfven wave in the magnetized plasma with a small plasma parameter (β = 8πnT / B0 2) is investigated. The nonlinear dispersion equation and instability growth rates are found on the basis of two-fluid magnetohydrodinamics. It is shown that an ordinary electromagnetic wave may decay into a kinetic Alfven wave and an other ordinary electromagnetic wave. The parametric instability considered in the paper may occur in the ionosphere and lower magnetosphere of the Earth, where the plasma parameter is small.
Keywords: electromagnetic wave, magnetized plasma, parametric instability
