Abstract: 

We present briefly the biography and main research results of Yuriy Vasylyovych Kondratyuk (real name Oleksandr Ignatovych Shargei) (June 21, 1897, Poltava - February 1942, unknown, possibly near Kaluga), an outstanding Ukrainian pioneer of astronautics and spaceflight, a theoretician and a visionary. In the early 20th century, he developed the first known Lunar Orbit Rendezvous, a key concept for landing spacecraft at the Moon and return to the Earth. "Yuriy Kondratyuk" is a stolen identity, under which he was hiding after the Russian revolution and became known to the scientific community.
