Аннотация:
Th e article analyzes forgotten and little-known facts from the biography of the famous scientist and teacher Georgy Fedorovych
Proskura, which are an integral and important part of the history of science and technology of the 20th century.
More than 100 years ago, the training of engineers in the fi eld of hydraulics began in the Mechanical Department of the
Kharkiv Institute of Technology (KhTI) in what is now Ukraine. Th e article describes the history of the organization of the
hydraulic laboratory and clarifi es the roles of individual participants in its formation.
Th e article explains why Georgy Proskura had to shift his research focus from hydraulics and hydraulic engineering to
aviation and aeronautics. Later, this led to the founding of the Kharkiv Aviation Institute. Th e involvement of a signifi cant
amount of information and reference material in the study made it possible to determine the reasons for Georgy Proskura’s
professional mobility, outline the specifi c features of his character and the main trajectories of professional activity,
and establish numerous inaccuracies that were made by individual researchers when trying to describe the activities of Georgy
Fedorovych Proskura.
Having not started his teaching career at the Kharkiv Technological Institute before the 1917 Revolution in the most
successful way, over time, Proskura was able to draw the right conclusions, heeded the constructive criticism of his colleagues,
and eventually became a prominent scientist and scientifi c organizer, creating his own scientifi c school in the fi elds of aviation
and hydraulic machinery. In 1930, Proskura became one of the founders of the Kharkiv Aircraft Motor (later Aviation) Institute.
Th anks to the processing of a signifi cant amount of archival materials, the authors managed to eliminate numerous gaps
and inaccuracies in the biography of Georgy Fedorovych Proskura, identify the sources of these errors, and partially restore
historical justice.
